Papers published in the International Journals collaborating with BioMicrowold2007 will go through a standard scientific review process. This means that each paper will be strictly reviewed and treated as a regular paper (the journals rejection rates will be high in order to select the best articles to increase the impact of the journals) Papers rejected by a journal can be included in the Proceedings Book if authors choose this option, but they cannot be included in the review process of other journal. The following journals will publish special issues covering BioMicroWorld2007: Please read the corresponding section in which you were interested in carefully before preparing and submitting your paper. | Special issue of Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier) | Impact factor: 2.359 (2006) Rejection rate: 75% of regular submissions Editor-in-Chief: J.O. Nriagu Science of the Total Environment will publish a special issue which will only include review papers in the area of Environmental Microbiology, with special interest in bioremediation, biofilms (early formation and mature biofilms), bioindustries (environmental aspects), and genomic fingerprinting and gene-environmental interactions involving microorganism. Due to time and space limitations, these reviews are not intended to be a comprehensive compilation of the recent relevant literature, but rather a personal article by the contributor(s), which sets out to both inform the reader of the major developments in the area, and identify those papers which in the opinion of the author(s), have made the greatest impact on the field. |

Authors are requested to prepare a summary of one half page of the review paper that they were interested in publishing. The summary must include title, authors’ names and affiliations, name and e-mail of contact author, the sentence "Summary submitted to Science of the Total Environment", and paper code (codes can be got it from the accepted abstract environment at: http://www.formatex.org/biomicroworld2007/acceptedabstracts.php Submit the above mentioned document by emailed to

before 24 January 2008. The editors for the special issue will review the summaries received and will decide the authors who will be invited to submit a review paper in order to be considered for publication at Science of the Total Environment (This decision would be communicated by early February). Those authors who were invited by the editors to submit the review papers would have to prepare their reviews carefully meeting the Guide for authors provided by the journal. All manuscripts should be submitted electronically through Elsevier Editorial System (EES), which can be accessed at http://ees.elsevier.com/stoten, before 24 March. For those authors who had also selected the option that if the paper were rejected by the journal, the work could be included in the BioMicroWorld2007 Conference Proceedings Book, would also have to download the cover form and the proceedings book paper template and make up their paper following this template (maximum length: 5 pages). Both documents should be submitted by e-mail to

before 24 March. Once submitted, every paper would be reviewed and the corresponding authors would be notified about the review results of their papers by May 2008. Those authors who were not invited by the editors to submit a review paper to Science of the Total Environment after reviewing their summaries, could submit their works to be considered for publication in one of the other special issues which will arise from BioMicroWorld2007 Conference (for what authors would have to meet the corresponding instructions for authors, submission protocols and deadlines of the option chosen), or could submit their works to be considered for publication in the BioMicroWorld2007 Conference Proceedings Book (for what authors would have to download the cover form and the proceedings book paper template and make up their paper following this template (maximum length: 5 pages). General Remarks for papers submitted to Science of the Total Environment
There is no restriction on the number of pages but brevity of papers is greatly encouraged. The length of a paper should be commensurate with the scientific information being reported. Manuscripts should have wide margins and double spacing throughout. Every page of the manuscript should be numbered. Line numbers should be inserted in order to facilitate reviewing. All illustrations and tables should accompany the submitted manuscript but should not be included within the text because file(s) containing them will be attached separately in the electronic submission system.
| | Special issue of Microbial Ecology (Springer) | Impact factor: 2.332 (2006) Editor-in-Chief: K.E. Nelson Microbial ecology lies at the heart of functioning for almost every ecosystem on the planet, from the deep-sea vents and subsurface systems to human and animal well-being; from pristine marine and terrestrial environments to industrial bioreactor functioning. Microbial Ecology will publish a special issue containing original research papers on the topic of metal-microbe interactions, with an emphasis on bioremediation of polluted soils and sediments. | Journal website | Submission protocol

General remarks for papers submitted to Microbial Ecology
The text should be organized into an introductory section, conveying the background and purpose of the report, and then into sections titled "Methods," "Results," and "Discussion." Please use line numbers on each page, to facilitate the review process. Each table should be typed on a separate page. The data should be arranged so that columns of similar material read down, not across. Tables should be numbered consecutively with appropriate legends at the top. All tables must be cited in the text. Legends for illustrations should be typed double spaced on a separate sheet, and numbered consecutively in correspondence with the figures. All figures must be cited in the text.
| | Special issue of Process Biochemistry (Elsevier) | Impact factor: 2.008 (2006) Rejection rate: 75% of regular submissions Editors: J. Boudrant, A.J. Sinskey, J.-J. Zhong Process Biochemistry is an application-orientated research journal devoted to reporting advances with originality and novelty, in the science and technology of the processes involving bioactive molecules or elements, and living organisms. The special issue will include original research papers on the topic of metabolic engineering, being understood as the practice of optimizing genetic and regulatory processes within cells to control the cells' production of a certain substance and also the metabolic engineering of diverse microorganisms for the biodegradation of toxic or recalcitrant substances. | Journal website | Submission protocol

General remarks for papers submitted to Process Biochemistry Manuscripts should not generally exceed 25 double-spaced pages of text (not including the references) and should not contain more than 15 figures and/or tables. Tables and figures are included after references with a separate page for each. Colour illustrations in the print version are reproduced at the author's expense. Articles without sufficient discussion will be systematically rejected. A cover letter should be submitted on line by authors together with the manuscript, which should include the following points: 1) all authors agree to submit the work to PRBI, 2) the work has not been published/submitted or being submitted to another journal, 3) the novelty and significant contribution of the submitted work are briefly described.

General remarks for papers submitted to Journal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology
Original papers should normally not exceed 16 printed pages (one printed page corresponds to about 850 words of text or 3 illustrations with their legends). The preferred format for manuscripts is Word. Manuscripts should be typed double spaced, including figure legends, any footnotes to tables or figures, and references. Use a normal, plain font (e.g., Times Roman) for text. Illustrations: the preferred figure formats are EPS for graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF for halftone illustrations. Legible, lower-quality formats (JPG, JPEG) may be used in order to meet file size restrictions on initial submission, but the original, higher-quality files may be requested during the review process. Each figure should be in a separate file, and the file name should include the figure number. Figure legends should be appended to the text after the reference list and not placed in the figure files. Online publication of color illustrations is free of charge. For color in the print version, authors will be expected to make a contribution towards the extra costs.
