Lisbon Airport Buses |
| |
There are two
complementary bus transport services, connecting Lisbon's
airport with the city centre. These services are the AeroBus
and AeroShuttle buses, which go past more than 90 Lisbon
hotels, thus providing tourists arriving at the airport with
easy access to their accommodation.
Aerobus (line 91)
It’s the first of the two connections created to serve the
airport. It runs daily from 07:00 AM to 11:00 PM, at 20
minutes intervals.
Normal tickets cost 3€ (valid for the whole day in the
public transport service of Lisbon), but you can buy the
frequent travelers ticket pack (it costs 10€ and has 5
tickets). The fare for Lisbon card users is 1,40€.
Leaving the airport, the bus goes through the Campo Pequeno,
Saldanha square, Marquês de Pombal square, Restauradores /
Rossio (downtown) , Praça do Comércio and finally Cais do
Sodré.
AeroShuttle
It is the most recent connection from the airport. It runs
daily from 07:00 AM to 11:00 PM, at 30 minutes intervals.
Normal tickets cost 3€ (valid for the whole day in the
public transport service of Lisbon), but you can buy the
frequent travelers ticket pack (it costs 10€ and has 5
tickets). The fare for Lisbon card users is 1,40€.
Leaving the airport, the bus goes through Campo Grande, Sete
Rios, Praça de Espanha ending close to the Marquês de Pombal
square. This bus connection has recently expanded, also
connecting the airport with the Gare do Oriente station.

The local bus service also provides
commuter buses between the airport and downtown (numbers 22,
44 and 83; cost 1,40€ ) |

TRAMS |
|
Trams are an interesting option for a tourist tour of Lisbon
city. There are 5 tram routes of which the most attractive
one is route 28 from Martim Moniz to Prazeres. This is the
classic tram route of Lisbon with extensive hilly and narrow
streets in the Alfama district. There is also a steep,
twisting section as the route leaves Lisbon centre towards
Prazeres, up the Calçada de S. Francisco. Services operate
about every seven minutes, though short-workings to Estrela
are included in these timings. Eastbound trams for the
Alfama are invariably crowded by the time they reach the Rua
da Conceição in central Lisbon, so it can be wise to board
in the opposite direction (towards Estrela and Prazeres) and
return to the Alfama from that end of the route. Prazeres
cemetery is itself an interesting spot and has good views
across the Alcântara valley which includes the Tagus bridge,
the docks and Alcântara-Terra station of Portuguese
Railways. There is an impressively steep curve at the west
end of the Rua da Conceição as the line leaves the city
centre, heading west. The Estrela Park is a pleasant spot,
opposite the basilica, to break the journey.

service is available at:

LISBON FUNICULARS AND ELEVATORS |
|
Lisbon has three working street funiculars and one street
elevator which allow its citizens and visitors to move to
and from its hilly districts more easily.
The Lavra Funicular
It runs from the eastern side of the Avenida da Liberdade at
a 25% gradient for 180 metres to the Torel district. The
hours of operation are 07:00-21:00, every day except Sundays
and holidays, when the opening time is 09:00. The single
ticket costs 1,40 Euros.
The Glória Funicular
The Glória funicular is on the west side of the Avenida da
Liberdade, connecting Restauradores with the Bairro Alto.
Excellent views of the city and castle. The Glória is the
busiest funicular in Lisbon and also the most accessible for
tourists as it lies next door to the main tourist
information office in the Palácio Foz. It is 265 metres long
and has an average gradient of 18%. Operating hours are
07:00 – 24:00 (Monday to Thursday), 07:00 – 04:30 (Fridays
and Saturdays) and 08:00 – 24:00 (Sundays and Holidays). The
single ticket costs 1,40 Euros.
The Bica Funicular
It is the only stepped street funicular in the city. It
climbs the Rua da Bica for 245 metres from the Rua S. Paulo,
near Santos, to the Calhariz district. Its average gradient
is 20% but is much steeper at the lower end (S.Paulo). The
hours of operation are 07:00-21:00, every day except Sundays
and holidays, when the opening time is 09:00. The single
ticket costs 1,40 Euros.
Santa Justa Street Elevator
The Santa Justa Elevator rises vertically some 45 metres
from the Rua de Santa Justa in the Baixa area of central
Lisbon to the Chiado district. The hours of operation are
07:00-21:00. The single ticket costs 2,80 Euros.
