Who we are?
Founded in 2001 in Badajoz, a city located in the western frontier of Spain, Formatex Research Center is a company truly committed to the spread of scientific, technical and industrial research. The two main kind of activities carried out by Formatex Research Center include the organization of international conferences and the edition and subsequent publication of scientific book series. Apart from that, the company has also been involved in different projects of all kinds and importance. Despite not being one of the biggest companies in this sector, Formatex Research Center has successfully managed to remain in the front line dealing with its kind of developed activities. After several years since de foundation of the company, it is time to take a look at the past. The first great event organized by Formatex was the ICTE 2002 (International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies in Education), which was carried out together with the University of Extremadura and its main target was to present and promote discussion about new educational environments and their applications in both the academic and the business field; involving pedagogical aspects as well as technological and organizational ones. From this very first project to nowadays, Formatex Research Center has followed a successful path and this is reflected in its numbers: around 20 international conferences organized, more than 30 books published, including conference proceedings, and more than 20 journal special issues.
What we aim for?
As already mentioned above, Formatex Research Center is a company focused on edition and subsequent publication of research books, as well as on organization of international scientific conferences. Although, as in the case of many other companies, the ability to develop an exercise that reporting an economic benefit is necessary and vital for the evolution of the company, Formatex has developed its own particular aim: disseminating the latest developments in science in an informative way. In this sense, Formatex is proud to present the most cutting-edge advances in different fields of science, so that not only members of research communities can understand the contents. We believe that with this work, we can bring science to a greater number of people and thus present elements of this broad field that were hitherto unknown by most.
Our General Manager
Born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1975, Antonio Méndez-Vilas is the General Manager of Formatex Research Center. He develops applied research to the study of microbial cells characterization and adhesion to surfaces of biomedical interest. Apart from his specific research line, in which he has authored about 40 international papers and presented works at different congresses, he is heavily involved in many different activities related to the development of science and technology in some cutting-edge areas, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary of current applied research, and he has also given rise to some different international projects within some of the EU Operational Programs and Initiatives.
